Strong 2009-results from Ekornes

Ekornes ASA has presented a solid result for 2009. The order income for 2009 is ten percent higher than in 2008.  The Group’s consolidated operating profit totalled NOK 500 million, which corresponds to 19.3 percent of the total turnover.

- Our employees and retailers have done a fantastic job for Ekornes in 2009.  What appeared to be a difficult year at first has turned out to be a golden year for Ekornes, says CEO Øyvind Tørlen at Ekornes. 

Focused and dedicated work in the markets, along with the advantage of high brand knowledge, has lead to a particularly positive development in Norway, Central Europe and Great Britain.  Lower raw materials costs also had a positive impact on profits. 

The order reserve at the end of the year totalled NOK 422 million, which is more than the double of the order reserve at the same time during the previous year.  The strong result has strengthened the competitive position of Ekornes.  The employees can now look forward to receiving a bonus corresponding to 75% of monthly salary.

2010 has also started very well for Ekornes.  The order income in January was at NOK 287 million, which is the highest order income ever for a single month. 

Ekornes ASA is the largest furniture manufacturer in the Nordic countries, and has its head office at Ikornnes in Sykkylven.  The group has approx. 1500 employees, 1300 of who work in Norway.  Ekornes has six factories in Norway.
